TLDR A diabetes-informed approach is essential for safe and effective skin rejuvenation treatments in diabetics.
This review examines the challenges of providing cosmetic dermatology treatments to diabetic patients, whose skin ages differently due to factors like advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and chronic inflammation. It highlights the potential of regenerative therapies, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and mesenchymal stem cell derivatives, to improve skin repair and aesthetics by promoting collagen production and angiogenesis. However, the review underscores the need for more clinical trials focused on diabetic populations and emphasizes a structured framework for best practices, including pre-assessment, risk-stratified procedure selection, and enhanced post-procedural care, to ensure safe and effective aesthetic care tailored to diabetic patients' needs.
