TLDR A diabetes-informed approach is essential for safe and effective skin rejuvenation treatments in diabetics.
Diabetes mellitus affects 589 million adults globally, with up to 70% experiencing skin issues like premature aging and alopecia, impacting quality of life. Despite increased demand for aesthetic procedures among diabetics, evidence-based guidelines are scarce. Diabetic skin ages faster due to factors like advanced glycation end products and oxidative stress, affecting the safety of procedures like chemical peels and microneedling. Regenerative therapies, such as platelet-rich plasma and mesenchymal stromal cell-derived products, show promise for skin rejuvenation. A diabetes-informed approach to aesthetic dermatology is crucial for safe and effective treatment.
