TLDR Diabetic patients need tailored cosmetic treatments for skin aging, with new therapies showing promise.
Diabetes mellitus affects 589 million adults globally, with up to 70% experiencing skin issues, including accelerated aging and alopecia, which impact quality of life. This review highlights the need for evidence-based cosmetic dermatology practices for diabetic patients, as their skin aging is driven by unique mechanisms like advanced glycation end products and oxidative stress. While demand for aesthetic procedures in this group is rising, guidance is limited. Emerging regenerative therapies, such as platelet-rich plasma and mesenchymal stromal cell-derived products, show promise for skin rejuvenation. A diabetes-informed approach is crucial for safe and effective cosmetic interventions.
