TLDR Hair growth is controlled by cycles influenced by hormones and various signals.
This review focused on the regulation of the hair follicle cycle, which included the phases of telogen (resting), anagen (growth), and catagen (regression). The anagen phase was marked by rapid proliferation of follicular keratinocytes, leading to hair shaft elongation and thickening. The cyclic changes involved significant remodeling of epithelial and dermal components, influenced by various factors such as sex hormones, neurotrophins, FGF, TGF, BMP, VEGF, and Sonic Hedgehog signaling pathways.
