TLDR Exercising women with irregular periods have lower thyroid hormone levels and less body fat.
The study assessed the reproductive profiles, energetic status, and androgen hormones of 64 premenopausal women, focusing on those with oligomenorrhea who exercised (ExOligo), and compared them to sedentary and exercising ovulatory women (SedOvul, ExOvul) and exercising amenorrheic women (ExAmen). It found that all exercising groups exhibited lower levels of triiodothyronine (TT3) and a lower percentage of truncal fat. The study measured various hormonal and energetic parameters, including urinary ovarian steroids and androgen profiles, to understand the differences in reproductive and energetic status among these groups.
