TLDR PCOS affects many women and requires early detection and symptom management.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age, affecting 5% to 10% of females aged 18 to 44. It is characterized by high testosterone levels, irregular menstruation, and/or small ovarian cysts. Factors such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, obesity, infectious agents, and toxins are linked to PCOS. While there is no cure, various drugs can help manage symptoms. Early detection through proper screening and testing is crucial for managing long-term health risks associated with PCOS.
