Risk Factors for Pressure Alopecia After Pyeloplasty in Children

    A study involving 288 children undergoing minimally invasive pyeloplasty identified key risk factors for pressure alopecia (PA) post-surgery. The research found that 7.64% of the children developed PA. Multivariate analysis revealed that not repositioning the head during surgery (OR = 6.00) and prolonged head compression (OR = 2.90) significantly increased the risk of PA. The study determined that a head compression duration exceeding 3.5 hours notably raised the risk, with a sensitivity of 86.8% and specificity of 72.7%. The findings suggest that improving intraoperative head positioning and implementing protective measures can help prevent PA in pediatric patients.
