Role of regulatory T cells in psoriasis pathogenesis and treatment

    Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease influenced by genetic and environmental factors, characterized by an imbalance between type 1 and type 17 cytokine-producing cells and regulatory T cells (Tregs). Tregs are crucial for maintaining immune homeostasis and preventing autoimmune diseases by suppressing immune responses. In psoriasis, Tregs have impaired suppressive function, disrupting the T-helper 17/Treg balance and contributing to disease exacerbation. The review highlighted recent insights into Tregs' role in psoriasis and discussed how current treatments affect Tregs. It also explored the potential of existing therapeutics to modulate Treg frequency or functionality for psoriasis treatment.
