TLDR Generic Palbociclib is safe and tolerable for treating certain breast cancer types.
A prospective observational study in Iraq with 175 participants evaluated the safety profile of generic Palbociclib in hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer. The study found that neutropenia was common in both the Aromatase inhibitor (AI) group (88.3%) and the Fulvestrant group (87.2%). Anemia was more prevalent in the Fulvestrant group (93.6%) compared to the AI group (63.3%), with a significant p-value of <0.001. Hair loss and urticaria were also noted, with hair loss being more common in the Fulvestrant group (p=0.005). The study concluded that the safety profile of generic Palbociclib is consistent with initial studies and historical data, confirming its tolerability in under-resourced settings.
