TLDR Scalp skin is a good option for skin grafts, healing well with proper care.
This study examined the use of hairy scalp skin as donor sites for thick split-thickness skin grafts in 102 Korean patients, finding that donor wounds typically healed within 6 to 15 days, barring infections which delayed healing. Maintaining appropriate graft thickness and adequate wound dressing were crucial to prevent complications like alopecia and scarring. The study emphasized the benefits of scalp skin for optimal regenerative healing, though infections, particularly from multidrug-resistant bacteria, could lead to delayed healing and complications. Overall, scalp skin was deemed a viable option for skin grafts, offering scarless regenerative healing when properly managed.
