Effects of Selenium and Vitamin E Supplementation on Physiological, Biochemical Indicators, and Intestinal Microbiota of White Cashmere Goat

February 2026 in “ Pakistan Veterinary Journal
The study investigated the effects of Selenium (Se) and Vitamin E (VE) supplementation on White cashmere goat ewes and their offspring in Tibet. Twelve ewes and their lambs were divided into control and supplemented groups. Results showed that Se and VE supplementation increased antioxidant capacity and improved serum biochemical indices in both ewes and lambs. In lambs, it also enhanced the development of secondary hair follicles, positively impacting cashmere production. However, the supplementation did not significantly alter the fecal microbiota composition in either ewes or lambs.
