TLDR Micronutrient deficiencies are common in hypothyroidism-related hair loss, so monitoring these nutrients may help manage hair health.
The study investigated serum vitamin and mineral profiles in 90 participants, including 65 patients with hypothyroidism-associated hair loss and 25 healthy controls. It found that patients with hair loss had significantly lower levels of vitamin D3, vitamin B12, calcium, iron, ferritin, magnesium, and zinc compared to controls. Elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels were inversely associated with iron stores and vitamin D3. The study concludes that micronutrient deficiencies are prevalent in patients with hypothyroidism-related hair loss, suggesting that regular monitoring of these nutrients could aid in managing hair health.
