TLDR Targeting androgen receptors in the skin is the most effective treatment for hyperandrogenism-related skin issues.
This review highlights the diverse skin manifestations of hyperandrogenism, such as hirsutism, acne vulgaris, androgenetic alopecia, acanthosis nigricans, acrochordons, and hyperhidrosis, which are often early indicators of the condition. These manifestations are linked to androgen receptor activation and related metabolic and inflammatory pathways. The review emphasizes that treatments targeting androgen receptors in the skin are more effective than non-androgen-targeted therapies. It concludes that further research is needed to evaluate current treatments and develop new strategies for managing these dermatologic conditions.
