Analysis of the Socioeconomic-Cultural Profile and Health Risk Perception Regarding Anabolic Steroid Use Among Bodybuilders in Sergipe

    The study examines the socio-economic-cultural profile and health perceptions of bodybuilders in Sergipe, Brazil, regarding anabolic steroid use. It found no significant link between sex, age, or family income and medical follow-up, but a significant relationship with educational level. Most participants (74.3%) had medical follow-up, and steroids like Sustanon 250 and Nandrolone Decanoate were commonly used. Acute side effects included acne (33.8%) and alopecia (23.7%), while chronic effects included hypertension (36.0%). The study concludes that anabolic steroid use is prevalent across different socioeconomic profiles, highlighting the need for awareness campaigns on the adverse effects of these substances.
