TLDR Sodium hyaluronate and eggshell membrane improve Ragdoll cats' skin and coat health.
A study involving 24 healthy 6-month-old Ragdoll cats evaluated the effects of dietary sodium hyaluronate (SH) and eggshell membrane (ESM) on skin and coat health. The combination of SH and ESM showed the most significant improvements in coat gloss, skin elasticity, and reduced transepidermal water loss (TEWL), indicating enhanced skin barrier function. This group also exhibited increased antioxidant levels, reduced inflammation markers, and higher concentrations of zinc, copper, and vitamin E. Changes in gut microbiota composition were observed, suggesting a potential gut-skin axis mechanism. Despite promising results, the study's small sample size and short duration limit broader conclusions, highlighting the need for further research.
