Cross-Sectional Analysis of Subclinical Findings Using High-Frequency Ultrasound in Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia

    This study investigates the use of high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS) in evaluating frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) in 15 female patients with a median age of 65 years. A total of 75 ultrasound images were analyzed, revealing significant dermal thinning in atrophic regions and reduced follicle number with miniaturization in the frontal hair growth area. HFUS Doppler ultrasound detected subclinical inflammation in 26.6% of patients. The study concludes that HFUS is effective in characterizing FFA by quantitatively assessing dermal atrophy, follicle miniaturization, and diagnosing subclinical inflammation.
