TLDR Tacrolimus helps mice grow hair by activating hair follicles.
The study investigated the effect of tacrolimus on the hair follicle cycle in mice. It was found that five days after depilation, hair follicles in the tacrolimus and minoxidil groups were in anagen V, indicating a more advanced growth stage compared to the vaseline group, which was in anagen III. The presence of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) in the tacrolimus and minoxidil groups, but not in the vaseline group, suggested that tacrolimus promoted hair growth by stimulating hair follicles to enter anagen V, potentially due to the effects of VEGF and HGF.
