TLDR TB lymphadenitis can occur in people with weakened immune systems, like those with SLE.
This case report described a 21-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who developed tuberculous lymphadenitis, a rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. The patient, who had been on immunosuppressive therapy for SLE, presented with a neck lump, fever, weight loss, and hair loss. Diagnosis was confirmed through fine-needle aspiration biopsy, and treatment with antituberculosis drugs led to a reduction in the size of the lymph node. The report highlighted the increased risk of tuberculosis in patients with SLE due to immunosuppressive therapy and emphasized the need for careful screening and preventive measures in such patients.
