TLDR TB lymphadenitis can occur in people with weakened immune systems, like those with SLE.
This case report described a 21-year-old female with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who developed tuberculous lymphadenitis, a form of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. The patient experienced symptoms such as a neck lump, fever, decreased appetite, weight loss, joint pain, hair loss, and sun sensitivity. Despite normal chest radiography, a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. The patient had been on steroids and hydroxychloroquine for SLE and was treated with antituberculosis drugs, resulting in a reduction of the neck lump. The report highlighted that TB lymphadenitis, though rare, can occur in individuals with compromised immunity due to conditions like SLE and long-term immunosuppressive therapy.
