This systematic review examines the chemical composition, therapeutic benefits, and toxicity profile of Semecarpus anacardium Linn. (Bhallataka), a plant commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine. While some studies suggest that compounds like anacardic acid in the plant have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties, more research is needed to confirm these effects and ensure safety. Preliminary findings indicate potential benefits for the cardiovascular system, glucose metabolism, circulatory system, and digestive system, with low toxicity. However, due to the variability in study approaches, no meta-analysis was conducted, highlighting the need for further research to validate Bhallataka's efficacy and safety.
