TLDR STAR particles are safe, comfortable, and effective for enhancing drug delivery through the skin.
The study assessed the tolerability, acceptability, and reproducibility of STAR particles for topical drug delivery in 8 human subjects. STAR particles, which create micropores in the skin, were applied at varying pressures and for 10 consecutive days at the highest pressure. Results showed enhanced skin permeability and drug delivery without significant adverse effects, with mild erythema observed at higher pressures. Subjects reported increased comfort over time, despite initial pain. The study concludes that STAR particles are a promising, minimally invasive method for improving topical drug delivery, though further research is needed to evaluate their effects on different skin types and conditions.
