Treatments of Hereditary Hair Loss (Alopecia)

Hair growth, which averages 1.25 cm per month, slows with age and can decrease to 0.25 cm per month. Baldness becomes noticeable when about 50% of hair is lost. Hair loss is often due to an internal disorder as hair, a protein product of follicles, is sensitive to bodily changes. Male pattern baldness is linked to genetics and male sex hormones called androgens that regulate hair growth. Over time, the hair growth cycle weakens, the hair follicle shrinks, and hair becomes shorter and finer until no new hair grows. While there's no cure for hereditary hair loss, treatments like minoxidil, finasteride, and surgery may be beneficial for some individuals.
