TLDR The new wound dressing helps heal abdominal wall defects faster by improving the wound environment.
The study developed a novel trilayer wound dressing using electrospinning, composed of hydrolyzed poly-acrylonitrile (HPAN)/Curcumin (CUR), polyurethane (PU), and polycaprolactone (PCL), aimed at improving the repair of full-thickness abdominal wall defects. The dressing effectively managed wound exudate, monitored pH, and enhanced the wound microenvironment, reducing inflammation and promoting angiogenesis. In vivo tests on 9 SD rats showed the trilayer dressing outperformed commercial polypropylene mesh in wound healing. The study concluded that the trilayer dressing could significantly aid in the treatment of abdominal wall defects, though further clinical trials were suggested to confirm its efficacy in humans.
