Role of Vidarikandadi Kala Basti in a Patient with Vitamin B12 Deficiency: A Case Report

    Roopali Barmola
TLDR Vidarikandadi Kala Basti therapy may help improve Vitamin B12 levels and symptoms, but more research is needed.
This case report discusses the use of Vidarikandadi Kala Basti, a classical Panchakarma procedure, in managing Vitamin B12 deficiency in a 22-year-old male. The patient initially had a Vitamin B12 level of 12 pg/mL, which increased to 1233 pg/mL after injectable supplementation but dropped to 143 pg/mL after discontinuation. Following two sittings of Basti therapy, his Vitamin B12 levels rose to 266 pg/mL, and there was an improvement in clinical symptoms such as tingling sensations, fatigue, hair loss, and calf pain. Although the therapy showed a modest increase in Vitamin B12 levels, the report concludes that causality cannot be established from a single case, and larger controlled studies are needed to assess its potential role in managing Vitamin B12 deficiency.
