TLDR Vitiligo is a systemic disease with psychological effects, and new treatments focus on personalized care.
Vitiligo, affecting 0.5-2% of the global population, is now recognized as a systemic disease with significant psychological impacts. Recent research has elucidated its complex pathogenesis involving oxidative stress, genetic factors, and immune mechanisms, particularly the IFN-γ-chemokine axis. Advances in diagnostic techniques and the development of targeted therapies, such as Janus Kinase inhibitors like ruxolitinib, have improved treatment options. The modern management of vitiligo emphasizes a holistic approach, integrating precise diagnostics and individualized therapies to address both medical and psychological needs of patients.
