TLDR Vitiligo's impact varies widely, affecting both emotions and social life, not just physical symptoms.
The study analyzed 530 vitiligo patients from multiple countries to classify them based on the psychosocial impact of the disease, identifying three distinct classes: mild (64.2%), moderate (24.3%), and severe (11.5%) psychosocial impact. It found that severe emotional and social burdens were often associated with more severe disease and visible lesions, impacting work productivity and quality of life (QOL). Notably, some patients with severe psychosocial burdens had mild physical symptoms, highlighting a discrepancy in disease assessment. The study underscores the need for holistic evaluations that consider both physical and psychosocial factors to fully understand vitiligo's impact on patients.
