TLDR The combination of Lucilia sericata larva secretions and Achillea sintenisii extract significantly improves wound healing in diabetic rats.
The study on 52 diabetic rats examined the wound healing effects of Lucilia sericata larval secretions and Achillea sintenisii extracts, both individually and in combination. The combination treatment significantly accelerated wound healing, outperforming standard treatments like Furacin cream. Histopathological analysis showed enhanced epithelialization, fibroblast proliferation, collagen synthesis, and reduced inflammation, indicating a synergistic effect. These findings suggest that combining maggot therapy with herbal treatments could be a promising alternative for managing diabetic wounds, potentially improving healing outcomes and addressing challenges like antibiotic resistance.
