TLDR Zinc levels in hair and blood are linked to enzyme activity in people with certain skin conditions.
The study examined zinc content in hair and serum of two groups of patients: those with acne phlegmonosa and those with alopecia areata, treated at the Department of Dermatology in Lublin. For acne phlegmonosa patients, zinc levels in hair were measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (ASA) and compared with serum zinc levels assessed indirectly via alkaline phosphatase activity. For alopecia areata patients, serum zinc levels were directly measured using ASA and compared with alkaline phosphatase activity. The study found a correlation between zinc levels in hair, serum, and alkaline phosphatase activity in serum.
