protein that inhibits cell cycle progression for DNA repair

p21 is a protein that acts as a regulator of the cell cycle. It is known for its role in inhibiting the activity of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), which are crucial for cell division. This function is particularly important in preventing the proliferation of damaged cells, which can lead to cancer.
