Melanin content refers to the amount and type of melanin pigment present in the skin, hair, and eyes. Melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes and is responsible for the coloration of these tissues. Higher melanin content results in darker pigmentation, providing some protection against UV radiation, while lower melanin content results in lighter pigmentation.
