enzyme involved in protein modification and hair follicle formation
PADI6 stands for Peptidyl Arginine Deiminase, Type VI, an enzyme that plays a role in the post-translational modification of proteins by converting arginine residues into citrulline. This process, known as citrullination, can affect protein function and is involved in various cellular processes, including the regulation of gene expression and the formation of hair follicles. Mutations in the PADI6 gene have been linked to certain types of alopecia and fertility issues.
