This study explores the potential of Coreopsis tinctoria Nutt. plant extract as a natural hair dye, examining its dyeing properties with and without the use of mordants. The research focused on the relationship between flavonoid structures and hair color, using yak hair for testing. The extract alone produced yellow hues, while combining it with ferrous lactate resulted in dark brown colors. The dye demonstrated excellent wash fastness, with minimal color loss after 24 washes. Key flavonoids such as marein, flavanomarein, okanin, and isookanin were identified as influential in color outcomes, with okanin being particularly effective in producing intense colors when used with ferrous lactate, even at low concentrations.
