September 2024 in “Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology” In a study involving 515 patients with severe alopecia areata treated with 4mg-baricitinib, researchers observed patterns of eyebrow (EB) and eyelash (EL) regrowth in relation to scalp hair response. Patients were categorized as early, gradual, or late responders based on scalp hair improvement. By Week-52, over 80% of scalp responders showed EB improvements, and 77-84% showed EL improvements. Concurrent EB/EL improvements were seen in 72-79% of responders by Week-52. Among scalp non-responders, 45% achieved EB or EL improvements, and 34% achieved concurrent improvements by Week-52. The study indicates that EB and EL regrowth generally aligns with scalp hair response in patients treated with baricitinib. Similar outcomes were noted with a 2mg dosage.
