August 2022 in “Aesthetic Surgery Journal” This study investigated the effects of intradermal botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) injections on scalp sebum secretion in Chinese subjects. A total of 49 patients participated, with 25 receiving BTX-A and 24 receiving normal saline (NS) as a placebo. The results showed that BTX-A significantly reduced scalp sebum secretion at 24, 48, and 72 hours postshampooing at the 1- and 3-month follow-up visits compared to NS. Patients reported higher satisfaction with BTX-A treatment, and no serious adverse events were noted. However, no significant differences were observed between the groups at 4 and 6 months post-treatment. Overall, a single session of intradermal BTX-A injection was effective and safe for reducing scalp sebum secretion for up to 3 months.
