research Comparison of Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy Versus Intralesional Triamcinolone Acetonide in the Treatment of Alopecia Areata: A Single-Blinded, Randomised Controlled Trial
This study compared the efficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy versus intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (IT) in treating localized alopecia areata of the scalp in 60 patients. Both treatments were administered in 3 sessions over 6 weeks, with follow-ups at 9 and 18 weeks. Results showed that both PRP and IT significantly reduced the severity of alopecia, with no statistically significant difference in the percentage of complete regrowth or patient satisfaction between the two groups. However, PRP was associated with more pain and bleeding, while IT led to atrophy and telangiectasia. Overall, PRP was found to be as effective as IT in treating localized alopecia areata.
