This study examined 8 patients with hereditary vitamin D resistant rickets (HVDRR) from 5 Saudi families, all of whom exhibited alopecia and secondary hyperparathyroidism. Genetic analysis identified 3 distinct mutations in the vitamin D receptor gene. Four patients were treated with high-dose calcium alone, while the other 4 received additional cinacalcet, a calcimimetic. The use of cinacalcet showed promise in improving serum PTH levels without causing hypocalcaemia, suggesting it may be a safe and valuable adjunctive therapy. However, the response to treatment varied, and further research is needed to confirm these findings.
research Daily Circle of Calcium Concentration in Hair Observed by X-ray Fluorescence Analysis
Hair can show daily calcium changes, linked to body calcium levels and influenced by hormones, and can help assess calcium metabolism issues.
research Rickets with alopecia: An inborn error of vitaminD metabolism
Two sisters with rickets and hair loss had a genetic issue with vitamin D processing, and only improved when given phosphorus supplements.
research Parathyroid hormone linked to a collagen binding domain promotes hair growth in a mouse model of chemotherapy-induced alopecia in a dose-dependent manner
A hormone linked to collagen helps hair grow back in mice after chemotherapy, and may also prevent bone loss.
research Vitamin D Deficiency in Adults with Musculoskeletal Pain
Vitamin D deficiency is common in adults with muscle and bone pain, especially women.

community Vitamin D advice I received after seeing my blood work.
The conversation discusses the importance of taking vitamin D with food for better absorption and its potential role in hair loss. Some users also suggest taking vitamin D with K2, getting sunlight, and using finasteride for hair loss treatment.
community My Theory Regarding a Cause and Cure for Androgenetic Alopecia
Hair loss theory suggests imbalance between Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) and Androgen Receptor (AR) activation. Proposed treatment includes upregulating VDR, downregulating AR, and improving mitochondrial health.
community Serum based on plant extracts boosts hair growth in weeks.
A serum containing Centella asiatica extracellular vesicles, IGF-1, FGF-7, and caffeine significantly improved hair thickness, density, length, and reduced hair loss after 56 days. The conversation also discusses how treatments like finasteride, minoxidil, and ketoconazole address different aspects of hair loss by reducing DHT, improving blood flow, and lowering inflammation.
community Serum containing minoxidil and bimatoprost analogs
A user discusses using a serum called Dallixa, containing minoxidil-like and bimatoprost-like compounds, for hair loss and greying. The user's dermatologist advised against finasteride and suggested the serum might improve hair pigmentation.
