TLDR Finasteride reduces some inflammation in BPH but not all.
The study examined the effects of finasteride, a 5-α reductase inhibitor, on inflammation-related cytokines in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) tissues from 60 patients, with 30 receiving finasteride treatment and 30 as untreated controls. Finasteride was found to reduce the expression of Bcl-2 and the inflammatory response associated with Th1 and Th2 cells, but it did not impact the Th17 cell-related inflammatory response. While there was a significant difference in low IL-17 expression, no significant differences were observed in the expression of IL-21, IL-23, and high levels of IL-17 between the treated and untreated groups.
