TLDR Pediatric androgenetic alopecia is under-recognized, but treatments like minoxidil and finasteride may help.
Pediatric androgenetic alopecia was an under-recognized condition. Clinical assessment using trichoscopy was recommended for children and adolescents experiencing hair loss or reduced hair density. Diagnosis was typically made clinically by observing hair loss patterns and using trichoscopy, with hyperandrogenemia being ruled out in some cases. Although no approved treatments existed for androgenetic alopecia in children, topical minoxidil, oral minoxidil, and topical finasteride could be beneficial. Hair transplantation might have been an option for girls in selected cases. The article provided an overview of the current understanding of pediatric androgenetic alopecia.
