TLDR Finasteride 5 mg/day effectively treats hair loss in postmenopausal women without hyper-androgenism.
The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of finasteride 5 mg/day in treating female pattern androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in postmenopausal women without hyper-androgenism. All 40 patients completed 18 months of treatment, and the subjective and objective improvement was statistically significant at months 6, 12, and 18. Patients under 60 years old and those between 60-70 years old had a higher percentage of highly improved patients than those over 70 years old. The study suggests that 5 mg/day of finasteride is effective for treating AGA in postmenopausal women without hyper-androgenism, and it was well-tolerated by all patients.
