TLDR Hibiscus syriacus L. flower extracts may help lower blood sugar and improve cholesterol in diabetes.
The study investigated the anti-diabetic potential of Hibiscus syriacus L. by analyzing its ethanol and aqueous extracts on alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The research found that both extracts significantly reduced blood glucose levels, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in the diabetic rats. The ethanolic extract demonstrated more significant anti-diabetic effects compared to the aqueous extract. These findings suggested that the flower extract of H. syriacus L. might possess potent anti-diabetic properties, supporting its use in treating diabetes mellitus.
