TLDR Red galangal rhizome extract is effective against acne-causing bacteria.
This literature review investigates the antibacterial activity of various plant extracts against Propionibacterium acnes, a primary bacterium responsible for acne. Due to increasing antibiotic resistance, alternative treatments are being explored. The study found that the red galangal rhizome extract was the most effective, showing an inhibitory zone of 31.5 mm at a 20% concentration, outperforming other extracts. This suggests that red galangal rhizome could be a promising alternative to traditional antibiotics for treating acne.
