TLDR The garden balsam leaf extract and serum showed no antifungal activity against Candida albicans.
This study investigated the antifungal activity of ethanol extract from Garden balsam leaves (Impatiens balsamina L.) formulated into a serum against Candida albicans, a fungus associated with dandruff. The study evaluated the physical properties of the extract and serum, using in vitro disc diffusion tests with 2% ketoconazole shampoo as a positive control. The extract showed a yield of 36.66% and contained antifungal compounds like flavonoids, saponins, and alkaloids. Despite the promising composition, no inhibition zones were observed for the extract, serum, or negative control, while the positive control exhibited a strong inhibition zone of 46.03 mm, indicating that the Garden balsam leaf extract did not demonstrate antifungal activity against Candida albicans in this study.
