TLDR Apoptosis is important in the hair cycle of dogs.
The study investigated the role of apoptotic cell death in canine hair follicles, aiming to understand its relationship with the hair cycle in dogs. Apoptosis, characterized by cytoplasmic and nuclear condensation and DNA fragmentation, was observed in both growing and regressing follicle epithelium. The findings, assessed using TUNEL and histological assays, indicated that apoptosis was a key mechanism in hair follicle growth and regression, similar to observations in humans, mice, rats, and guinea pigs.
