TLDR Alopecia areata management in Poland faces challenges in treatment consistency and patient care, needing standardized practices and better public awareness.
The study on alopecia areata (AA) management in Poland reveals significant challenges in medical practices and patient care, emphasizing the psychological impact on patients and the variability in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Involving 187 respondents, it highlights the use of dermoscopy by 78% of physicians, while the adoption of severity scales and psychosocial assessment tools is inconsistent. Topical glucocorticosteroids are commonly used for limited AA, with systemic glucocorticosteroids for severe cases, but the use of Janus kinase inhibitors is limited due to reimbursement issues. The introduction of a national drug program offering free ritlecitinib treatment is a positive step, yet gaps in public awareness and access to modern treatments persist. The study calls for standardized practices, a multidisciplinary approach, and improved patient care standards to align with global practices and address the psychosocial burden and stigma associated with AA.
