This literature review discusses bioengineering strategies for regenerating skin integrity, highlighting the potential of stem cells and direct reprogramming methods. Stem cells can differentiate into normal skin cells, such as keratinocytes, and serve as a significant source of skin organoids, which are valuable for studying skin biology. Emerging direct reprogramming methods show promise in regenerating skin from wounded surfaces. These advancements are expected to enhance both basic and clinical research in skin biology, bridging the gap between research and clinical application for non-healing skin defects.
