Characterization and Evaluation of Bletilla Striata Polysaccharide/Ethanol Extract Composite Multifunctional Sponges

    The study developed a multifunctional medical dressing using Bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP) and ethanol extract of B. striata (EEB), which was vacuum freeze-dried into sponges. The EEB25 sponge demonstrated significant hemostatic effects due to its water absorption capacity, as well as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties from the EEB. It also showed excellent biodegradability and biocompatibility. In a full-thickness wound experiment, the EEB25 sponge achieved wound healing rates of 82.76% on the 8th day and 95.36% on the 16th day, significantly outperforming the model group. Histological analysis revealed dense collagen fibers and new blood vessels, indicating effective wound healing. This composite sponge offered a promising approach for wound dressing applications.
