Clinico-Epidemiological, Trichoscopic, and Light Microscopic Evaluation of Pediatric Hair and Scalp Disorders: A Cross-Sectional Study from a Tertiary Care Hospital

    This study evaluated pediatric hair and scalp disorders in 220 children aged 0-12 years, highlighting the importance of trichoscopic and light microscopic examinations for accurate diagnosis. The most common conditions were scalp infections, non-infectious scaly scalp dermatosis, and alopecia areata. Rare findings included "matchstick hair" in Netherton syndrome and new variants of tinea capitis. The study found high agreement between trichoscopy, clinical diagnosis, and light microscopy, with Cohen's kappa values of 0.917 and 0.769, respectively, supporting their use as reliable non-invasive diagnostic tools in pediatric dermatology.
