TLDR The hairless gene in Kunming mice is important for hair and skin, and shows genetic variations.
The study focused on cloning and analyzing the cDNA encoding the hairless (Hr) gene from the Kunming mouse. The hairless gene is important for hair and skin structure, acting as a transcriptional corepressor for thyroid hormone receptors and playing a role in hair growth cycling. The researchers successfully cloned and sequenced the full-length cDNA and CDS sequences, which were 4104bp and 3546bp, respectively, and submitted them to GenBank. The protein encoded by this sequence consists of 1181 amino acids. Homologous comparisons showed high conservation of the Hr gene among different species, indicating its functional significance. The study identified 4 SNP sites and one deletion mutation in the hairless gene mRNAs, with two SNPs resulting in amino acid changes, providing new data for SNPs in the Hr gene.
