TLDR Hypertrichosis involves excessive hair growth and needs careful diagnosis and treatment, considering its psychological effects.
Hypertrichosis is characterized by excessive hair growth in atypical areas and can be either congenital or acquired, leading to significant clinical and psychosocial challenges, including psychological distress and social stigmatization. Proper diagnosis requires distinguishing it from hirsutism through comprehensive clinical evaluation. Treatment options include topical and systemic therapies, mechanical methods, and laser treatments, with special attention to the psychosocial impact on pediatric patients. This review aims to enhance the understanding of hypertrichosis among physicians and researchers to improve diagnosis, treatment, and patient support.
