TLDR GFC with minoxidil is as effective as PRP for hair regrowth but causes less pain.
This randomized controlled trial involving 44 patients with androgenetic alopecia compared the efficacy of growth factor concentrate (GFC) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections as adjuncts to topical minoxidil. Both treatments significantly improved the terminal/vellus hair ratio, with PRP showing a slightly higher increase. However, GFC resulted in significantly lower pain scores and better patient satisfaction scores. Both groups experienced improvements in the dermatology life quality index. The study concludes that GFC, combined with topical minoxidil, offers comparable hair regrowth and volume outcomes to PRP, with the added benefit of reduced pain, suggesting its potential as an effective adjunct treatment.
