TLDR The film-trigger applicator improves microneedle skin delivery and drug efficiency using simple finger force.
The study introduced a film-trigger applicator (FTA) system designed to enhance the delivery of dissolving microneedles (DMNs) into the skin using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) film. The FTA system improved drug delivery efficiency compared to traditional DMN patches, as demonstrated by better skin penetration and higher plasma insulin levels in C57BL/6 mice. The system required only finger force, making it a simple and promising alternative to conventional methods. The study found that a punching force of 11 N with 6% CMC film was optimal for effective DMN administration, achieving 93% bioavailability compared to 68% with traditional patches. The research involved 5 mice per group, ensuring a robust study design.
